The Hague
The largest station is Den Haag Centraale which uses Intercity, Sneltrain, Stoptrain and Randstadrail lines; there is a Thalys line for Eurostar travellers. It is 10 minutes from the city centre. Den Haag Hollands Spoor is the oldest station in the Hague. Trains between Ebbsfleet and the Hague are not currently available via Eurostar services.Trains between Ebbsfleet International and the Hague have average journey times of 4 hours, 1 minute; the route passes throuh Lille, Brussels and Rotterdam. Travel to the Netherlands via high speed rail is an easier and more comfortable means of fast travel. The best time to visit is in summer, to take full advantage of the nearby beach resorts that are so popular with tourists.
The Hague as a city developed around a 13th century palace, and with a population of over 470000, is the third largest city in the Netherlands. It is the administrative capital city of the Netherlands, and was intended to become the neutral capital of the world.
It is most famous for its banking, trade and industry, but its main economic input is governmental. It is also the current residence of Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, the seat of the UN War Crimes Tribunal, the International Court of Justice and the Permanent Court of Arbitration.
